Coughs are one of the most annoying things that could happen to us. We could be in an appointment with a client and then we cough. We could be in a meeting and then we cough. We could be with people and then – our throats itch, and then, we cough. It’s unpleasant and annoying. One of the reasons it could be re-occurring is that you may be consuming something that keeps triggering it.
At Angels of Care LLC, we compiled a few things that you should avoid when you have cough:
- Keep away from sweet food and drinks
If your cough is throaty and you know it will lead to a sore throat, keep the sweetness away. Bad bacteria in our throats tend to feed on sweets and other unhealthy food like the greasy dishes. Sweet food and drinks trigger the bacteria to eat them, further infecting the throat, which causes the itch. Soon, it could be a sore throat for you.
- Stay away from cold foods and drinks
While cold foods and drinks may give us relief – these, definitely, would not be as relieving if we have cough. Especially if we have dry cough, cold foods and drinks may do more damage than good. Cold consumption may cause dryness in the throat, leaving your throat dry and itchy. This may worsen your cough.
- Stay away from caffeine and soft drinks
Caffeine and sodas are very dehydrating and are not good for coughs. Aside from the fact that these are acidic, which makes them a foe to dry throats, these can cause too much irritation and itch that could trigger coughs. As mentioned above, the sweetness is also not very advisable. Too much coughing leads to sore throats. In worst case scenarios, too much coughing can lead to asthma.
- Stay away from foods you are allergic to
Coughs can be a sign of allergic reactions. It is always best to avoid the food that you are allergic to. If you realize that your cough worsens after eating certain foods – avoid them. It is best to visit your doctor to keep your health in check.
- Try to stay away from peanuts and ripe mangoes
Other foods that can cause irritation to the throat are peanuts and ripe mangoes. Ripe mangoes have hairy parts due to the seed. This can cause further irritation with the throat – giving you the cough of your life. The same goes for peanuts – which also causes dry throats. Always stay away from foods that can irritate your throat. It is always best to prevent than to cure.
Coughing continuously can cause you further complications. As coughing may lead to chronic coughing, asthmas and, sore throats, it is best to visit your doctor for further instructions and remedies.
